Cape Cod presented Andrew with another opportunity to catch-up with an old Edinburgh friend, Erik!
We loved this place! First of all our accommodation was fantastic, all homely and comfortable but with water views and a sea breeze like a holiday. There were two bedrooms and, woohoo, two bathrooms. For the first time in forever we sat in a lounge-room and watched tele. Secondly it’s just a beautiful, effortless, easy-like-Sunday-morning kind of place which was exactly what we needed after a week in NYC.
The Cape is made up of a string of quaint but distinct little sea-side villages. We stayed at Truro and Erik and Lara lived at Wellfleet. Provincetown (P-town to locals) is known for its social diversity and as an artists’ hub, it was preparing for “Bear Week” while we were there. The cute little sand-coloured shorebird is the piping plover. The portraits on the shed wall at the end of the jetty are of the wives of the old Portuguese fisherman; their faces would be the last thing the men would see before they went to sea.
Unfortunately I was still unwell when we arrived and Reuben came down with the bug soon after we arrived. This was a real set-back as we weren’t able to make the most of our time, particularly we weren’t able to explore special spots with our local hosts and Cape Cod aficionados. We all wish we’d stayed just a bit longer, it didn’t feel right to say goodbye so soon but hey, some time is better than no time and we’ll see Erik and Lara soon when they come to visit us in Australia!
