Sorel

Back to Three Rivers and drinks with Yvon and Olena, Nicole and Alberto, and Angus and Kim. There was an annual fete with live music and fireworks at Parc Jean-Perron at the end of the street so the kids and some adults moseyed down for a look. Gosh, we’re getting a bit weary but only a week to go and still so much to see and do!

Yvon, affectionately known as Mononc Yvon, kindly offered to take Matilda on a motorbike ride to Sorel where his daughter and grandchildren live; but not before taking Heidi and Reuben for a dink around the block. Derek, Lucie, Ben, Heidi and Reuben went back to Parc Jean-Perron to enjoy the local festivities. Andrew and I worked and blogged.

Here’s Matilda’s story …

On the ride up to Sorel Yvon and I stopped to look at his old school as well as getting what he said was the “best poutine in Quebec”, located in a store fully decked out in cow heads that moved, cow skins and dairy foods such as ice cream and various types of cheese.

Once we got to Sorel the kids and I, as well as two friends the youngest two boys had over for the day, went for a swim in their pool and then Valarie (the second oldest girl), one of the boys’ friends and I went for a small walk down the road to the park. Then the whole family and I went to downtown Sorel where there was a large street market. Whilst walking through the market a parade of about what seemed to be three hundred women and men rode past on motorbikes dressed in all things pink to raise money for cancer. Then we all went back home to hang out and have dinner.

Finally it was time to go home as Yvon feared a storm was coming and sadly, once we were about 15-30 mins down the road, the storm did come. Yvon says for all the years he has had motorbikes he has never experienced a storm that bad, which is believable as the entire time there were vigorous winds and hail hitting us. although the entire day was so much fun and I am very grateful to Yvon for taking me.
